AFRICAN AMERICAN SCHOOL BUILDING REVIVAL
Scotlandville High School
East Baton Rouge Parish
Before Scotlandville High School opened in Baton Rouge, students had to go to McKinley or Capitol High Schools. In 1952, a public school was constructed on Elm Grove Garden Drive with classes starting at grades 7-8. With each year that passed, a grade was added to the school. In 1956, members of the first graduating class received diplomas. Four years later, a new senior high school was completed on Baker Road (Highway 19). The former high school became Scotlandville Junior High (later Middle School), serving grades 6-8, and the newly built school on Baker Road was officially designated Scotlandville Senior High School in 1960. By the early 1980s, Scotlandville High School had evolved into a dedicated magnet high school focusing on engineering, and in 1997 it became a three-tier school with educational programs for magnet and community students as well as an engineering professions curriculum. The school is currently still in operation as Scotlandville Magnet High School.
