AFRICAN AMERICAN SCHOOL BUILDING REVIVAL
Reuben McCall High School
Madison Parish
After World War II, efforts were made to improve schools for people of color in the town, including Reuben McCall High School, where several war surplus buildings were bought by the school board and served as the high school. In 1950, a new brick building was constructed and the first site of Reuben McCall High School became known as Reuben McCall Junior High School. At the start of consolidation in 1950, students were given the option of which school to attend through voluntary integration. Ultimately, integration occurred under court order in 1965 where all schools were rezoned with Reuben McCall High School being still in use. Thomastown High School, a school not far from Tallulah, merged with Reuben McCall High School in 2001. Tallulah High School was closed in 2005 to merge with Reuben McCall High School and form Madison Parish High School where they used the facilities across from Reuben McCall High School for a year before using their new and current facilities. Now Reuben McCall High School stands vacant alongside several other schools in Madison Parish.
