AFRICAN AMERICAN SCHOOL BUILDING REVIVAL
Cypress Grove High School
St. James Parish

Cypress Grove High School opened in 1947 as a high school, and was founded by Mrs. B. E. Winbush. Cypress Grove remained open until integration in 1969. Although the original high school building was demolished some time around 1998, an elementary was located adjacent to the high school on the same property. In 2015, a commemorative plaque was installed on the site of the historic school to honor its history of educating the African American community. The next-door elementary school became known as Cypress Grove Montessori Academy in August 2018 carrying on the historic high school's name.
