AFRICAN AMERICAN SCHOOL BUILDING REVIVAL
Central High School (First Location)
Nachitoches Parish

Central High School started out as the Lincoln Institute, which was built in 1912 in Natchitoches, Louisiana. In 1919 the Lincoln Institute received funding and support through the Rosenwald Fund and by 1925, seven new school buildings were built. The school was then renamed as the Natchitoches Parish Training School. The 1930s brought additional growth to the school with the construction of an elementary school building in 1935 and a new high school building in 1939. An even newer building was constructed in 1952 and the school was renamed as Central High School. Today the building built in 1952 still stands extant and in use as the Self-Help Shopping Center. In the 1960s, a new round brick building was built across town and that school became known as Central High School. Information on this school can be found on the following page.
