AFRICAN AMERICAN SCHOOL BUILDING REVIVAL
Central Consolidated High School
Webster Parish

Central Consolidated High School was originally named Central Consolidated Rosenwald School, which was founded in the early 1920s and was bolstered by the Rosenwald Fund. At the time, the formation of the school was led by E. R. Richardson, Modiciah Luke (who was the first Black supervisor of schools in Webster Parish), and other prominent community leaders. The Rosenwald structure burned in 1943, and the school held classes in an agriculture building and in Mt. Nebo Church until a new building was constructed. The student population continued to grow as the schools Galilee (also a Rosenwald school), St. John, Pleasant Grove, Hopewell, Sibley, Birt, Mt. Elam, and part of Pleasant Hill consolidated into this school. The school burned down again during the 1966-67 school year and a new brick building was built in 1967. In 1974 the school became an integrated junior high school. Today, the school is extant and in use as Central Elementary School
