AFRICAN AMERICAN SCHOOL BUILDING REVIVAL
Cedar Grove High School
West Carroll Parish

This school started out as a church school taught in Bethany Baptist Church until 1922 and was called Cedar Grove High School. Cube Combs helped establish this school as a Rosenwald school in the 1920s, and when a new building was constructed in 1956, the school changed its name to Combs-McIntyre High School after Cube Combs. The school served the community of Oak Grove, Louisiana and continued to grow. On April 12, 1969, eighteen classrooms were destroyed by fire. The gym and cafeteria suffered water and smoke damage. The school completed the 1968-69 academic year in the remaining buildings until the school closed in 1970 due to integration. There is an active alumni association and even though the campus suffered fire damage, it still is used as a civic and recreational center in the community.
