AFRICAN AMERICAN SCHOOL BUILDING REVIVAL
All Saints High School
Desoto Parish
All Saints High School was founded in 1953 after consolidating seventeen small schools west of Benson, south of the Sabine Parish line, east of the Red River line, and in the Mt. Olive community. Many of the schools had connections to churches, and this was honored through the use of “Saint” in the school’s name. The school started as a central brick building with additional structures from other previously consolidated schools brought to the campus for additional spaces and reuse. Over time additional buildings were added to the campus including a library and a multi-purpose room behind the gymnasium. All Saints High School is also known as the first school to have a chapter of the National Honor Society, a competitive baseball team, and a home economics department certified by the state. In 1976, the school merged with Pelican High School and eventually became known as Pelican All Saints High School. The school was used until 2013 when the school closed due to budget cuts and the students were consolidated into Mansfield High School.
